The Extertaler Pet Boarding Facility is located in the beautiful countryside of Extertal-Silixen, directly next to the Hestadalur Icelandic Horse Farm.

About me
My name is Gudrun Schneider and animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Since childhood I have cared for many different animals, from guinea pigs and budgerigars to horses and dogs. Working with animals and building a close bond with them has become a true passion of mine.
In 1999, I moved to Extertal-Silixen with my Icelandic horse farm and founded the Extertaler Pet Boarding Facility.
The facility has been approved by the Veterinary Office of Detmold, and my qualifications in animal care have been officially verified.
I am supported by dedicated staff members who care for our guest animals with great commitment and affection.

We recommend contacting us as early as possible regarding your preferred boarding period, especially during school holidays, public holidays, and the summer season. As we place great importance on individual care and only accommodate a limited number of animals, availability during popular periods is often booked well in advance.
However, last-minute requests are always welcome. Simply get in touch with us, and we will be happy to check our availability.
Yes, in many cases we can accommodate your pet’s individual needs. Whether your pet requires regular medication, special feeding schedules, or has specific habits and routines, please let us know before their stay.
We will discuss all important details with you to ensure that your pet feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for during their time with us.
Not at all. Many of our guests are visiting a boarding facility for the very first time.
Thanks to our calm, family-oriented atmosphere and individual approach to care, we help each animal settle into its new environment at its own pace. With patience, experience, and plenty of attention, we do our best to ensure that even shy or sensitive pets feel comfortable and secure as quickly as possible.
Important Information
Dogs, cats and ferrets must be regularly vaccinated and dewormed.
For dogs, we recommend vaccination against kennel cough.
Drop-off and pick-up are available Monday to Saturday at 10:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.
Visits are possible by prior appointment – Monday to Friday at 10:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
